In Concert | Laurinda Hofmeyr and Sakka Stone
On Friday 11 September 2015 the Alliance Francaise du Cap will be hosting an evening of Afrikaans music with two acclaimed singer songwriters Laurinda Hofmeyr and Sakka Stone. Laurinda is a well known South African musician and songwriter who specializes in setting Afrikaans poetry to beautiful music. Accompanied by musicians Schalk Joubert, Kevin Gibson and Mabet van Wyk as well as the poetic text ranging from Breytenbach to Toast Coetzer, she offers a toe-curling musical experience that touches the soul. On top of that, this evening will form part of the launch tour of her brand new fourth album ‘wat ek wou sê’.
Sakka Stone is a son of the soil of Namaqualand. In 2011 he produced the Album Koperkoors (Copper Fever) in which he tells the story of how the discovery of copper changed the people of his beloved Namaqualand. In 2012 he released a second solo album Eenkantland incorporating stories told by one of Namaqualand’s well known sons Theunis Uys. In 2014 he released a mini CD including his stunning composition of the Afrikaaans poet George Weideman’s poem “Lied vir Johnny se vrou” (Song for Johnny ‘s wife). Join us for a gentle exploration of Afrikaans poetry and song writing and experience well known South African landscapes through different eyes.
The Alliance wine bar will have Audacia wines on sale and complimentary snacks will be provided.
